To me parenting is a calling from God. Everyone is not called for one
reason or another, and some choose to forfeit the opportunity to parent. After
becoming a parent I became overjoyed with the fact I was laying the
foundation for my family’s legacy with my DNA. As a young parent I
understood very early in my parenting experience “I was my children’s mother,
not their friends.” As my children develop and explore the world around them,
I realized as a parent that Dr. Spock was wrong, and that discipline has a
rightful place parallel to parenting.
As a parent I have found that DISCIPLINE is necessary to help direct a child in
the way that they should go. Not only do I understand the importance of
discipline as a parent; I also found that allowing your child to have a voice is
also important. In other words, years ago we were taught children were to be
seen and not heard. I do not agree totally with that today. If some of us were
allowed to be heard years ago counselors and psychiatrist would be out of
business today.
Not only do I believe children should have a voice. As a parent I understand
that we are rearing our children, but we must make sure that when they are
speaking be certain to LISTEN!! I often take the time to communicate with
there friends and the parents. Many times when children act out they pick up
their attitude and experiences up from the adults in their homes and the
friends around them. Later, if you see a new (spirit) or attitude show up at
your front door you will know where it is coming from and hopefully you will
know how to rebuke it and destroy it before it take deep roots.
Last but definitely not least I know it is imperative to give your children a
strong foundation that encourages a relationship with CHRIST. If they do not
have a GOD conscience mind they will not understand they are valuable to
God and have something special to offer society. Parents let us continue to
raise God fearing children and give back to Christ what He has entrusted us
with (the call of parenting), so that He may get the glory out of their lives.
