"Head of the House"
Mr. Quentin Edmonds
My name is Quentin Edmonds and this is my story. I am a father and a husband. This is
the toughest yet most rewarding job I have ever had. I am learning everyday what it
means to be the "Head of the House". Being the head has nothing to do with how much
money you make or how many bills you pay. It has everything to do with how much you
are willing to sacrifice for your family.

Growing up my father had a saying, “I pay the cost to be the boss." I really thought I had
a clear understanding of what that meant. But now as I step in the role as the head of
the house I understand that I have to ‘pay the cost to be the boss’. If my family will
respect me as the head of the house I have to pay the cost; this means I have to win
their trust by sacrificing my time, energy, and talent. I say this is my story because
everything up to now has shaped me into being the man that my family needs. On a
daily basis I face the possibility of being laid off. I go into work wondering if this will be
the day they say we cannot give you the hours.

Everyday I suffer from chronic pain in my foot, pain so great that at the end of the day I am crippled. Everyday I want to
throw in the towel but I must ‘pay the cost to be the boss’.  I have to stand even when I do not want to. I cannot take the
frustration of my day out on my family. After a long eleven hour day when I just want to go home and crash, I have to make
myself available for my family. Even when my foot is hurting the worst I have to share the chores of the household. I have
to put my cares aside for the sake of my life. The bible says that I have to love my family like Christ loves the church.
Meaning I have to sacrifice for my life, I have to take the oversight; I have to be willing to bear the unfair aspects for my
family. I have to stand in the gap for my family. I know for some people this is easy but for me I am still learning how to pay
the cost. At the age of 28 and after 4 years of marriage I still have a lot to learn. My story is my family. They mean the
world to me. I want to be the very best leader that I can be for my family.
